Port Talbot Harriers was founded in 1921 as Port Talbot YMCA Harriers Club and from that date we have an archive of history to share with you.
This archive was compiled over a period of almost two years by John Davies, life member and president of Port Talbot Harriers, and a collection of members and friends of the club.
Under the guidance of Arthur Williams the Harriers were ranked third best club in Wales for many years. One of the early stars was long distance runner Ike O’Brien.
Early in 1961, after being denied the facilities of the YMCA, Arthur led a movement to form an independent club. At a public meeting held in the Municipal Buildings on 9th February 1961 Port Talbot Harriers & Athletic Club was born.
Fast forward to 2021, Chairman Bernie Henderson and the club were delighted to celebrate their centenary year and as part of that heritage are able to provide this online archive showcasing the history of the running and multisport club from 1921 to the present day.
