Celebrating 100 Years of the Running & Multisport Club
The club was founded by Arthur Ernest Williams as Port Talbot YMCA Harriers Club where they were ranked third best club in Wales for many years.
As one of the best athletic clubs in Wales, PTH won the Welsh YMCA Championship six times and Isaac O'Brien won the Welsh Marathon Championship in 1937.
The Harriers used Talbot Athletic Ground for their training and competitions, thanks to Aberavon RFC, and hosted the WAAA Senior Championships there in 1948.
Many athletes competed during summer months and played ball games during the winter. John Collins won the Welsh Championship for 440 yards in 1952.
In 1961 the club became Port Talbot Harriers & Athletic Club. Isaac O'Brien became the greatest club athlete due to his success and championship wins.
Youth members gained international recognition in 1976. Pamela Walker and David Morgan represented Wales and won 200m titles respectively.
The youth's success flourished with top performances in XC/track championships and internationals. Sian Morris became the club's first and only GB International.
The club won Div. 5 of the Welsh T&F League and got promoted to Div. 1 of the Gwent XC League. Tony Holling became the club's only full International in 1997.
The men's team won the Welsh Masters T&F League in 2002. The women's team grew significantly, where they won Div. 1 of the West Glam XC League in 2009.
The club grew rapidly, transforming into a multisport club putting on their own race events. The club fundraised a brand new clubhouse which opened in 2018.
As a thriving running and multisport club, PTH celebrates its centenary amid a global pandemic which saw much disruption to training and races.
